That tradition continues with a number of firearms designed to meet the continually changing needs of both Law Enforcement and Military professionals. From the AR-556® SBR, the Mini-14® and the PC Carbine™ to the MAX-9™, LCP® MAX and LCP® II, Ruger has a firearm for individual officer back up and off-duty use, departmental issue or Military use.

Departmental Sales

How can I participate?

Ruger is prepared to meet your department's firearms needs. We offer a Test and Evaluation Program for departments considering purchasing Ruger firearms. The process requires a letter signed by the Chief of Police, Sheriff, or Commanding Officer requesting the specific firearm. The letter will be forwarded to one of our Law Enforcement Distributors, who will deliver the firearm to the department for the evaluation period of 90 days. At the end of the evaluation period, the department will return the firearm to the Ruger Law Enforcement Distributor, along with a test report on the firearm's performance.

Department purchases and department bids should be forwarded to the Ruger Law Enforcement Distributor(s) covering your state. They will provide the department with pricing and delivery.

Departmental Training

What is Departmental Training?

Ruger armorer training is open to all Military and Law Enforcement armorers who perform or plan to perform armorer work on Ruger® firearms for their department or agencies. Please send requests on letterhead or departmental email to Bob Wood at rwood@ruger.com.

Ruger Armorer Courses

Ruger offers factory-certified armorer training to U.S. officers and Military personnel who perform or plan to perform armorer work on Ruger® products. A departmental or agency letter of request may be required to apply for training. While previous armorer training is recommended it is not necessary to take these courses.

Attending officer must be a U.S. citizen! For agencies and departments from outside the United States who wish to have their armorer attend this training it is required by law for Ruger to apply for a license from the U.S. State Department for those specific students. The licensing process does require a large amount of lead time and fees. The license will only apply to those students named on the license. No substitutions are possible.

Ruger charges by product for the armorer training: $200 per student for a single product, $250 per student for two products and $300 per student for three products. Payment is expected 30 days prior to the training.

Ruger will provide all tools, equipment, firearms and manuals for the training. This is a hands-on training course. It is recommended that students bring safety glasses, a writing instrument and flashlight to the training.

Mini-14® 1 DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger® Mini-14® rifle. The course covers complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the Mini-14® rifles in their agency's inventory.

Mini-14® - With Gauging 1½ DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger® Mini-14® rifle. The course covers complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning, gauging and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the Mini-14® rifles in their agency's inventory.

The gauging portion of this class is intended for those agencies who have a large number of Ruger® Mini-14® rifles in their inventory AND have the correct gauges. Students will be instructed in the use of the gauges, inspection procedures and parts replacement

PC Carbine 1-1½ DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger PC Carbine™ rifle. The course covers complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the Police Carbines rifles in their agency's inventory.

AR-556® 1-1½ DAY

This course covers recommended armorer training on the Ruger® AR-556® rifle. Training includes disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years on the Ruger® AR-556® rifle only.

SR-556® 1-1½ DAY

This course covers recommended armorer training on the Ruger® SR-556® rifle. This applies to both the fixed and takedown barrel configurations of the SR-556® rifle as well as the SR-762® rifle. Training includes disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the SR-556® rifles in their agency's inventory.

M77® 1 DAY

For those agencies with the Ruger® M77®, Hawkeye® or Scout Rifle this training is suitable for all of its variations. This course does not apply to the original tang safety M77® or the Ruger American Rifle®.

The training will include complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance, accuracy with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation.

At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the M77® rifles in their agency's inventory.

Ruger Precision® Rifle 1-1½ DAY

This course covers the disassembly and reassembly necessary for armorer work, adjustment options, cleaning, inspection, accuracy theory and the principles of operation. Upon completion of the class, students will be familiar with the necessary armorer skills to maintain the Ruger Precision® Rifles in their department's inventory. Armorers will be certified for three years. This course is limited to 11 students maximum.

Police Carbine - Original Pistol Caliber Carbine ONE DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger® Police Carbine rifle. The course covers complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the rifle's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the Police Carbines rifles in their agency's inventory.

LCP® / LCP® II 1 DAY

This course covers both the LCP® and the LCP® II pistols and generational variations within those families. Training includes disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain these pistols in their agency's inventory.

LC9® 1 DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger® LC9® pistol. The course includes complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the LC9® pistols in their agency's inventory.

LC9s® 1 DAY

This course covers all aspects of armorer training on the Ruger® LC9s® pistol. The course includes complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the LC9s® pistols in their agency's inventory.

Ruger American® Pistol 1-1½ DAY

This course covers the family of Ruger American™ Pistols. The course includes complete disassembly and reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. At the completion of this course the armorer will be certified for three years and be able to maintain the Ruger American™ Pistols in their agency's inventory.

SR9® 1 DAY

This training is geared to the SR family of pistols. Agencies that have these pistols in use can expect their armorer, after completing this course to be familiar with disassembly, reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. This will apply to all model variations of the SR pistol family. Armorers will be certified for three years after completing the course.

P-Series 1-1½ DAY

The P-Series pistol course can cover all model variations of the Ruger® P-Series pistols, as well as the three firing modes of the pistols. Course length is dependent on actual models needed to be covered in the training. Most classes, covering a single model and all three modes of fire, can be covered in a single day. Course includes disassembly, reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the pistol's function/cycle of operation. Armorers will be certified for three years after completing the course.

GP100® 1-1½ DAY

The techniques and skills learned in the GP100® revolver armorer course will also apply to the Ruger SP101® revolver. This course includes disassembly, reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning with an emphasis on the revolver's function/cycle of operation. Basic maintenance, including parts fitting and adjustment will be taught through the course. Armorers will be certified for three years after completion.

LCR® 1 DAY

The armorer training for LCR® revolvers applies to the entire family of LCR® revolvers. Disassembly, reassembly, nomenclature, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning and basic maintenance with an emphasis on the revolver's function/cycle of operation will all be taught in this course. Armorers will be certified for three years after completing the course.

Scheduled Training Courses

We currently offer two types of armorer courses: In Person Training (IPT) and Remote Armorer School Training (RAST) courses.

IPT – We will send an instructor to your site to conduct the class. We require a minimum of 10* paid attendees to do an IPT class. For 10 paid students you will receive one free slot. You will receive a second free slot for 15 paid attendees. We do a maximum of 20* attendees.

Cost: Fees are based on product line/family.
Single product - $200, two products $250, three products $300 per attendee. So for example if you did an American Pistol armorer class it would be $200/ attendee. If you added the AR-556 rifle it would be $250/ attendee.
*For Precision Rifle Classes we do a maximum of 12 students and waive the mandatory 10 attendee minimum.

RAST - These classes are done on a remote basis using Cisco’s WebeX. Attendees will be given log in information and passwords prior to the class. Attendees can use a single screen, such as in a classroom setting or each use their own devices for the training.

Cost: Single product $150, two products $200, three products $250. There is no minimum number of attendees, there is a maximum of 20*. We do not offer free slots for RAST classes.

For both type of classes we will ship all equipment necessary for the training. We will make arrangements for shipping to and from the class and cover all shipping fees.

Certification will be for three years from the date of training.
In all but a few acceptations the armorer training can be accomplished in a single day. Class size, product coved and armorer skills can affect the duration of the class. We will set the class length once a product and estimated class size is established.
