May 19, 2006
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR) is pleased to announce two Ruger firearms have been selected to receive NRA Publications "Golden Bullseye" Awards. The .22 caliber Ruger Mark III Hunter pistol was selected as the "2006 American Hunter Hunting Handgun of the Year," and the Ruger M77 Mark II Frontier rifle has been selected as the "2006 Shooting Illustrated Rifle of the Year."
The Golden Bullseye Awards are an acknowledgement of the finest products available in the shooting sports, and are voted on by an eight-member committee consisting of editors, art staff and veteran publications staff, representing more than a century of collective experience in the firearm industry. To qualify for consideration for a Golden Bullseye Award, a product must have been: - Recently introduced and widely available to consumers in 2005
- Used/tested by a staff member or regular contributor to the magazine
- Reliable in the field, meeting or exceeding the evaluator's expectations
- Innovative in design and function
- Readily perceived as a value to the purchaser
- Styled in a manner befitting the firearm industry and, perhaps more importantly, its enthusiasts
The awards were presented at an awards breakfast during the 2006 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits on May 19th in Milwaukee, WI. Accepting the award for the Ruger Mark III Hunter on behalf of the Company, Vice President of Prescott Operations Robert R. Stutler said, "We designed this pistol to be practical, attractive, and innovative. With its high visibility sights, target- crowned fluted bull-barrel, and unique checkered cocobolo wood grips, it is a great choice for handgun hunters." Executive Director of Sales & Marketing Randell Pence accepted on behalf of the Company for its Ruger M77 Mark II Frontier rifle. "This is a rifle that really has to be shot before you realize just how good it is," said Pence. "It's short, light, handy, and fast to shoot, with a forward-mounted scope mounted out on the barrel. We hope this major award continues to generate interest in this remarkable new product," Pence concluded.
