Occupational Health Specialist - (Show Details)

Organization:
Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. is seeking a qualified Occupational Health Specialist in our Prescott, AZ facility.

Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for the development, implementation and continual improvement of healthcare programs, and provide healthcare to all employees.

Essential Job Duties:
• Administer training classes as directed by the EHS Manager and/or Human Resources Manager.
• Assists Safety Supervisor in observing and teaching employees good work practices, housekeeping, hygiene, wearing of personnel protective and respirators.
• Evaluate and treat certain illnesses/injuries and deliver first aid where needed. Maintain records of all services rendered, provide physician referral when appropriate. Make independent decisions based on professional knowledge and judgment in emergency cases.
• Maintain adequate amounts of medical supplies on hand for routine and emergency use and ensure that all medical equipment is in good working order and calibrate, if indicated.
• Administer the annual flu vaccine program, providing flu vaccines for associates as well as the written information on the vaccine provided.
• Administer hearing conservation, lead monitoring and OSHA questionnaire in the respiratory protection program, referring individuals for further testing if indicated. Conduct pre-employment, post-accident and random drug testing on site. Refer non-negative specimens for further testing and follow up as indicated. Communicate results of testing in a confidential manner and on a "need to know" basis.
• Coordinate the Emergency Responder program, providing initial and ongoing training and support to the responders and janitorial personnel on Blood-borne Pathogens, as required by the OSHA standards. Administer the Hepatitis B vaccine series to all responders and janitorial personnel who request this vaccine. Maintain written records of training as well as vaccine administration.
• Maintain associates' medical records according to standards of confidentiality as well as the professional code of ethics.
• Stay current and informed in the areas of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene and safety regulations.
• Compile the OSHA 300 log, as well as the OSHA 300A at year end. Post the OSHA 300A in the plant as required by OSHA.
• Keep track of "days away, restricted duty or transfer days" and compile DART report monthly and at year end.
• File Workers Compensation claims and follow up as required. Manage and treat work related illnesses and injuries with emphasis on early recognition intervention, follow-up and monitor workers as they return to work. Assist in administration of case management for employees who have prolonged or complex illnesses/injuries.
• Communicate as needed with the Workers Compensation carrier and treating provider. Maintaining patient confidentiality to the greatest extent possible, communicate issues to the Human Resource Manager and EHS Manager on a need-to-know basis.
• Assist with evaluation and monitoring of and of short term disability (STD) and Family Medical Leave (FMLA) requests. Work with the Disability Carriers' medical review boards.
• Ability to obtain and keep current special certifications, e.g, audiometric testing, emergency care training, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential task satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required. Good knowledge of Word, Excel and Power-point is required. Employee will be responsible for certain aspects of training and must be able to talk in front of large groups of people.

Education and/or Experience:
Requires an Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college. Must possess an unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state of Arizona. This position is performed independently.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals, compute rate, and ratio.

Reasoning Ability:
Must possess good critical thinking skills and apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems using logical sound reasoning. The employee must be able to write/type, speak, hear, talk, read, and inspect in English.

Physical Demands:
Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Push/pull: Typically less than one pound. Job is performed sitting or standing. Frequent walking is required as visiting employees and work areas on the plant floor are part of the job duties. Twisting, rotating fingers, hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, biceps, knees, legs, ankles, hips, shoulders, neck, upper & lower back are required. Must be able to bend, stoop, and pivot. Functions of the job vary as do the range of nursing duties.

Work Environment:
May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and bodily fluids including blood. Will be exposed to loud noises, as loud as 85 dcB or higher while on the plant floor. Those areas are in a mandatory hearing conservation program as required by OSHA standards. Personal protective equipment that is required includes hearing protection (ear buds or ear muffs), and safety glasses. Nitrile gloves and safety glasses or shield are required when handling bodily fluids. Shoes must be hard soles, with closed toe and heel.

Design Engineer - (Show Details)

Organization:
Sturm Ruger & Co., Inc. a highly successful, high-end manufacturer of sporting rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Scope of the Position:
Reporting to a Senior Engineer or Operations Manager, this position has product design responsibility for the location's new products, from concept to production.

Principal Accountabilities:
• Provide solutions to product specifications developed using our VOC (Voice of Customer) process. Create or modify existing gun designs using 2D and 3D CAD drafting tools (Solid Works). The candidate should have experience with programming CNC machines (CAMWORKS or equivalent). The projects require developing the design of the assembly, the working mechanisms and the corresponding detail components for the firearm as well as their material selection. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
• The ability to work in a team environment with the various other departments needed to bring a new product to launch.
• Develops the test plans, tests and evaluates functions and performance of product prototypes.
• Develops and executes project plans/schedules.
• Provides technical support to internal and external customers.

Background/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent is necessary. An advanced degree is a plus.
A minimum of five to seven years of product design and development engineering experience, preferably in a firearms manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated skills in 3D/Solid Modeling using SolidWorks, Pro E or a compatible CAD system.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (ANSI Y14.5) is necessary.

Personal Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be a high energy, creative, resourceful and organized engineering design professional. The ability to multi-task and to manage several projects simultaneously is a must.
The new incumbent must bring strong analytical tools. Well-developed communications skills, both verbal and written, are key.

Chemical Process Technician - (Show Details)

Summary:
This position requires operating, monitoring, documenting, and tracking the performance of chemical processes and thermochemical treatment processes performed on steel and stainless steel parts. Will work with engineers, equipment operators, Environmental Health & Safety personnel, and maintenance staff to verify that equipment is maintained and operated correctly and performing to predefined parameters and quality requirements.

Essential Job Duties:
• Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which Ruger operates. Train equipment operators in process and safety documentation.
• Conduct routine operating inspections of chemical processing areas and thermochemical treatment areas.
• Work with engineering to troubleshoot operational and/or quality issues and update process documentation and work instructions.
• Work with EH&S team to respond to area emergencies or operational situations as well as maintain logs of the 90 day storage area.
• Perform titrations & measurement (concentration, pH, and acidity) of chemical baths on regular schedules.
• Prepare metallography samples for microscopic measurement of coating thickness.
• Maintain chemical levels in the new chemical storage area.
• Perform abrasion resistance test to measure the quality level of black oxide processing.
• Maintain and monitor thermochemical treatment equipment and make adjustments to chemical baths based on analysis techniques.
• Perform Oxalic Acid Spot Test for black oxide processing.
• Clean laboratory and equipment and support 5S rigor in the chemical laboratory.
• Prepare regular reports on chemical system(s) performance parameters for management team.
• Maintain and calibrate sensors and meters (PH and flow). Document maintenance activities in logs per regulatory agency requirements.
• Participate in training as mandated by OSHA standards. Participate in kaizen activities. Give oral presentations of process improvements.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Two years coursework in mathematics and science or Associate in Science Degree or equivalent. Minimum three years’ experience in chemical processing, thermochemical treatment, wastewater treatment processing, or any combination of thereof. Demonstrated ability to perform laboratory measurements and make changes to chemical processing solutions in an industrial environment. Completion of OSHA 30-hour training for construction and general industry.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use stoichiometry to perform chemistry type calculations.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Machine Technician - (Show Details)

This position is responsible for the continuous improvement of production processes in order to manufacturer the highest quality parts for the finest firearms in the world.

Required Skills:
• Aid in the documentation and improvement of manufacturing processes
• Design tools and fixtures for use in the production process
• Maintain and improve CNC programs on CNC mills & lathes
• Execute and improve inspection processes to ensure quality of parts as they are produced

Background and Experience:
Qualifies candidates will have 3-5 years of machine shop experience. They must be competent in CNC milling and turning, plate inspection methods, the basics of metal cutting and must be able to read an engineering drawing or blueprint. They should be able to set up CNC machines including tramming a work offset on a fixture, verifying speeds and feeds for cutting tools, and fully inspecting first run parts. Experience with Lean production systems and GD&T would be helpful and desirable. Knowledge of Heat treatment and Materials is desirable.
