Design Engineer - (Show Details)

Organization:
Sturm Ruger & Co., Inc. a highly successful, high-end manufacturer of sporting rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Scope of the Position:
Reporting to a Senior Engineer or Operations Manager, this position has product design responsibility for the location's new products, from concept to production.

Principal Accountabilities:
• Provide solutions to product specifications developed using our VOC (Voice of Customer) process. Create or modify existing gun designs using 2D and 3D CAD drafting tools (Solid Works). The candidate should have experience with programming CNC machines (CAMWORKS or equivalent). The projects require developing the design of the assembly, the working mechanisms and the corresponding detail components for the firearm as well as their material selection. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
• The ability to work in a team environment with the various other departments needed to bring a new product to launch.
• Develops the test plans, tests and evaluates functions and performance of product prototypes.
• Develops and executes project plans/schedules.
• Provides technical support to internal and external customers.

Background/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent is necessary. An advanced degree is a plus.
A minimum of five to seven years of product design and development engineering experience, preferably in a firearms manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated skills in 3D/Solid Modeling using SolidWorks, Pro E or a compatible CAD system.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (ANSI Y14.5) is necessary.

Personal Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be a high energy, creative, resourceful and organized engineering design professional. The ability to multi-task and to manage several projects simultaneously is a must.
The new incumbent must bring strong analytical tools. Well-developed communications skills, both verbal and written, are key.

Compensation:
The cash compensation for this position includes a base salary that is commensurate with background and experience, a profit sharing plan and a bonus program that is based on company financial results. We also provide a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.

About the Position:

Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Engineer - (Show Details)

Summary:
Location of the position is at Newport NH campus. This position will be responsible for the development, implementation and continual improvement of production methods, equipment, tooling and processes in order to manufacture the highest quality parts for some the finest firearms in the world.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish, document and improve manufacturing processes.
• Improve the manufacturability of products and assist with the introduction of new product lines into production.
• Design tools and fixtures for the production process.
• Specify new equipment and processes for new products as well as existing products and processes.
• Evaluate new processes, equipment suppliers and technology in order to facilitate continuous improvement of overall efficiency and quality.
• Work as part of a product development team at times to assist with new product development efforts.
• Specify, purchase and set up new state of the art manufacturing equipment.

Background and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent or a combination of education and experience. Must be a competent SolidWorks user or similar CAD software user. Must have working knowledge of engineering documents, change orders and related. Must have a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in tool design and the layout of fixtures, jigs and gages in a metals cutting manufacturing environment. Experience with Lean production systems and GD&T would be helpful and desirable. Manual and CAM & CNC Programming in precision metal cutting experience is a necessary. Must be able to work within a team environment and excel.

Product Design Engineer - (Show Details)

Summary:
Location of the position is at Newport NH campus. This position has product design and product engineering responsibility for the organization's new and existing products.

Principal Accountabilities
Creates and/or modifies all types of rifle and other gun designs using CAD drafting tools. This includes the design of components as well as the selection of materials to be used in the final products.
Use broad range of engineering analysis tools (FEA, Mathematical modeling, High speed video, etc.) to create data driven designs.
Supports and coordinates product design implementation activities with the manufacturing engineering staff as required.
Works closely with manufacturing to resolve product design for manufacturability issues.
Develops the test plans and evaluates functions of product prototypes.
Develops and executes project plans/schedules to satisfy design project requirements.
Provides technical support to internal and external customers.

Background and Experience
This position requires a minimum of five to seven years of engineering experience. Product design and manufacturing engineering experience preferably in a firearms, metal products and/or in a precision metal cutting environment.
Must have demonstrated skills in 3D/Solid Modeling using SolidWorks or similar compatible CAD system.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances is necessary along with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Background with cutting tools, as well as jigs, fixtures and safety equipment for production machinery is important.
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
